Last week, Sygeon joined the group of SAP partners holding the SAP Business AI Platform competency at the Expert tier. For us, it is a formal confirmation of work that started in the early days of SAP BTP. For our customers, it is a useful signal when selecting a partner, provided you know how to read it. In this article we explain what changed in the SAP partner program, what the Expert tier verifies, and what it means in practice when you are planning a BTP or AI project.
From SAP BTP to SAP Business AI Platform
Until mid-2026, the competency was known as the SAP BTP competency and covered application development, integration, and data, which have been Sygeon’s core specializations from the start. With the rename to SAP Business AI Platform, SAP added a dedicated AI specialization to the framework.
The new name tells you where SAP is heading. The platform is positioned as the foundation for the autonomous enterprise, and partners are now evaluated not only on how well they build, integrate, and manage data on it, but also on whether they can bring AI scenarios into productive use. Dedicated programs such as the SAP AI incentive reinforce the same direction: SAP wants AI projects delivered, not just discussed.
What the Expert tier requires
SAP verifies three areas before granting the competency:
- Completed customer projects: We have delivered projects with customers across all covered areas: application development, integration, data, and AI.
- Certified consultants: SAP BTP has been our focus since the very beginning of the platform, and our team currently holds nearly 30 active SAP certifications across its full scope. More on that below.
- Proven delivery of BTP solutions: This includes solutions officially listed on store.sap.com, such as Iaso, our AI Support Assistant for SAP Integration Suite.
What it means for our customers
If you are planning work with the established BTP services, whether it is SAP Integration Suite, SAP Build Process Automation, SAP Build Apps, extension development with the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model, SAP HANA Cloud, or event-driven architectures on SAP Advanced Event Mesh, you are working with a team whose delivery record in these areas has been verified by SAP. That verification reduces one of the real risks in partner selection: finding out mid-project that the references were stronger than the delivery capability.
For AI initiatives, the timing matters even more. Budgets are opening, and programs like the SAP AI incentive can meaningfully reduce the cost of a first project. What is often overlooked is that the incentive is structured around production deployments. The partner you choose needs to be able to carry a scenario all the way to go-live, within the program’s timeline. We have been through that full cycle already, from scoping and use case analysis, through architecture and build on SAP AI Core, to a solution running in production. If you are at the stage of deciding whether an AI use case is worth pursuing at all, that experience is exactly what shortens the path and keeps the budget under control.
The experience behind the badge
A competency tier is a snapshot. What sits behind ours is more interesting than the badge itself.
Our team has worked on SAP BTP since the early days of the platform, and the certifications we hold today, close to thirty active ones across integration, solution architecture, application build, platform administration, data engineering, and generative AI development, have been renewed and extended as the platform evolved. In core areas such as integration and architecture, several consultants hold the same certification on purpose. Your project should never depend on one certified individual being available.
The AI part of the competency did not come from a study group. Long before the first customer engagement, we were testing SAP AI Core, Joule Studio, and the generative AI hub on our own demo environment: building agents, breaking them, comparing models, and checking where the platform delivers on its promises and where it quietly does not. Some of those experiments ended up in the bin. One of them became our official SAP product: Iaso – AI Support Assistant for SAP Integration Suite. Others turned into our first customer AI implementations.

What comes next
For us, the competency is not a finish line. The certifications behind it are on a continuous renewal cycle, our demo environment keeps absorbing whatever SAP ships next, and the lessons from the first AI implementations are already feeding into how we scope the following ones.
